In this pathway learners consider reducing waste in dairy farming and how recycling slurry to make green bedding has health benefits for cattle as well as making farming more sustainable. They will learn how simple machines can make processing waste more efficient and sustainable, linking their scientific ideas about forces and machines to the farming context.

Learners following the pathway will develop engineering habits of mind as they work through different stages of the engineering design cycle linked to functions of farming equipment. At the end of the pathway they will they be given the opportunity to demonstrate those skills while working through the complete engineering design cycle in response to the Engineering Educates Challenge.
